Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. The couple moved to Oxfordshire when she was five and enrolled in the Dragon School. Emma's ambition was to become an actor. When she was 6, she enrolled in the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch and took lessons in acting, singing and dancing. At the age of ten the actress took part in and played the leading role in several Stagecoach School plays and productions. In 1999 casting began in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered through Emma's Oxford Theater teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that following eight auditions Emma as well as Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's debut on screen was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's premiere in 2001.
